Ladybugs main diet is aphids--they must be around, too. Ladybugs shed their skin several times, just like snakes! Then after a while they stop shedding and grow the hard skin we recognize. And when first hatched they don't look like ladybugs at all--they are quite ugly! Animals and birds don't eat ladybugs because they taste terrible to them (although I don't know how we know this!--Did some scientist eat one?) There's your science lesson for the day!!
